Yubu

Yubu is a dutch educational method for highschools aimed to help students decide which followup study they want to do. It does this through a series of table-top games and an online platform. Curve Wall

Project brief: Creatively introduce new players
to Curve Fever.

Curve Wall

The Curve Wall is a gaming installation that physicalizes the successful online multiplayer game: Curve Fever. (Curve Fever is essentially a multiplayer snake game) Curve Fever was searching for a creative way to engage new players with their game at events. I designed, built and programmed the Curve Wall. The Wall is a 3x1.5m screen on which players can play Curve Fever, however instead of using a keyboard to control the snake, player have to use a pad that has to be placed on the wall itself. In this way, not only the snakes are tangled, but also the players. The Curve Wall was featured on Campzone, the biggest outdoor LAN party in the world.

Control my Light

Project brief: To explore an unusual opportunity that
connected lighting devices offer nowadays.

Control my Light

What would happen if only a close friend could control your lights? That was the driving question of this experiment. For two days my lights could only be controlled by my friend through a simple one-page website. This wouldn’t make turning on the light easier, however could this experiment lead to new ideas? Light is something we use every day, yet be barely notice this. Not being able to control my own light made me aware of how I use light. And it created a practical reason to be in touch with each other during the day.

  • Type: Student design experiment.
  • Duration: 2 weeks.
  • Project brief: To explore an unusual opportunity that connected lighting devices offer nowadays.
  • Most valuable learning experience: Quickly gaining insight into new domains.
  • Activities: Interviewing, Web development, Experiment setup.

HOMi

Role: Full-stack developer.

HOMi

HOMi is management software for dutch homework institutions. It helps students with planning their homework, it gives coaches insight into what the students are doing and gives the owner of the institutions overview into when their coaches are working. I was technically responsible for this project while also managing stakeholders in the context of a larger organisation. I had to convince the organisation of the value of doing maintenance, while also pushing a backlog of new features and wishes from our sales department. In the maintime I was training a junior web-developer. The stack for this project was: PHP (Laravel), Postgress, JS (VueJs) and HTML / CSS (Bootstrap).

Sammlu

Project brief: To design a product that facilitates
remembering an experience.

Sammlu

Did you ever went on holiday and made tons of videos? What did you do with them? While some people use software like Adobe Premiere Pro to make amazing videos, however I found that most people just archive the videos somewhere, such a pitty! I designed and prototyped Sammlu, a game that lets you sort your videos together with your friends or family while you are on holiday. I tested it with my friends from the local student snowboarding association (Avalanche Boarders) to learn how Sammlu could bring value to their lives. I found that these people would love to compete with each other in serious and silly challenges and that Sammlu could be the product that facilitates this.

Centraal Beheer // Connected world hackathon

Project brief: Create and prototype an innovative idea within 24 hours.

Centraal Beheer // Connected world hackathon

The goal the hackathon was to come up with an innovative idea that would revolutionize Centraal beheer's connection with their customers and build it. Together with Toon van Strijp, Katy de Lepper and two employees of Centraal Beheer we came up with SamSam. SamSam is a new type of insurance; is a shared insurance. This is great for when going on a holiday with friends. We created an app prototype which showed the basic interactions a customer would have. We pitched the idea to a jury consisting of board members of Centraal Beheer and they decided we earned the 1st place!

  • Type: Hackathon
  • Duration: 24 hours
  • Project brief: Design and built an innovative solution for connecting with Centraal Beheer's clients within 24 hours.

  • Activities: Brainstorming, concept development, web development, pitching.

Education Hackathon

Project brief: Design and built an innovative solution for personalised education within 24 hours.

Education Hackathon

The goal the hackathon was to come up with an innovative idea that would digitize and personalize dutch education and build it. Together with a group of designers, developers and business specialists an app and web panel were made that allowed children to learn anything by following routes that were created by the teachers. The routes were categorized in such a way that they matched the dutch education system. The children could decide for themselves which part of the route to explore first.

The biggest prize to me, was working together with this amazing multidisciplinary team. We were put together by change, however it felt like magic. The 2nd place was a nice bonus on top of this.

  • Type: Hackathon
  • Duration: 24 hours
  • Project brief: Design and built an innovative solution for personalised education within 24 hours.
